Google Ads for small business works best when you keep it narrow: one clear goal, a tight local area, a small set of relevant keywords, a budget you are comfortable with and conversion tracking from day one. Set those up correctly and even a modest account can bring real enquiries from people already searching for what you offer.
This guide walks through the set-up step by step for businesses in Noida, Greater Noida and the wider Delhi NCR, using Google’s own help documentation.
Is Google Ads worth it for a small business?
Google Ads can be worth it for a small business when people actively search for your service and you can handle the enquiries that come in.
Search ads appear when someone types a query, so you reach people at the moment they are looking. That suits services such as repairs, clinics, coaching, legal help, home services and B2B suppliers. It is a weaker fit when nobody searches for what you sell yet, in which case awareness channels may do more.
Before you spend anything, check three things:
- Demand: do people search for your service in your area?
- A landing page: does your website have a clear, fast page for that service?
- Follow-up: can someone answer calls and forms quickly?
If you would like a specialist to plan and manage this, our PPC services cover account set-up, keyword research, ads and ongoing optimisation.
How do you set up a Google Ads account the right way?
Create your account with your business details, pick a campaign objective that matches what you want people to do, and switch to the full campaign settings so you control targeting yourself.
New accounts often guide you into a simplified set-up. That is fine for getting started, but make sure you can see and edit location, keywords and budget settings before you launch. Choose INR as your currency and your local time zone carefully when you create the account, so billing and reports match how you run your business.
Choose a campaign objective
Google Ads asks you to pick an objective, which shapes the recommendations you see. Common choices for small businesses are:
- Leads: get people to show interest, for example by sharing contact details.
- Sales: drive sales online, by phone or in store.
- Website traffic: send potential customers to your website.
For most local service businesses, Leads with a Search campaign is a sensible start. Google also lets you create a campaign without an objective’s guidance if you prefer to set everything manually.
How should you set location targeting for Delhi NCR?
Target only the areas you actually serve, and change the location option to “Presence” so your ads are shown to people who are in, or regularly in, those areas.
Google Ads offers two main “include” options:
| Option | Who sees your ads | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Presence or interest (default) | People likely to be in or regularly in your locations, plus people who have shown interest in them | Travel, real estate or services people research from elsewhere |
| Presence | People likely to be located, or regularly located, in your targeted locations | Most local services in Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi NCR |
The default setting can show your ads to people outside your area who are simply interested in it. For a local plumber or clinic, that usually wastes clicks. Google also notes that when you target a city, ads may reach people in nearby suburbs, so review your location report after the first few weeks and exclude places you do not serve.
How do you choose keywords and write ads?
Choose a small group of keywords that match the exact service people need, group them by service, and write ads that repeat the searcher’s need and give one clear next step.
Keywords
- Start with service plus location terms, such as “AC repair Noida” or “physiotherapy clinic Greater Noida”.
- Create a separate ad group for each service, so the ad and landing page match the search.
- Avoid single broad words like “repair” that attract unrelated searches.
Ads
- Use the service and area in the headline.
- Mention what makes you a practical choice, such as opening hours or same-day visits, only if it is true.
- Add your phone number, location and links to key pages as assets where available.
- Send each ad group to the matching service page, not your home page. If those pages are weak, our website design services can build focused landing pages.
How do you set a budget you can control?
Set an average daily budget you are comfortable spending every day of the month, and remember that daily spend can vary.
Google explains that on a given day a campaign might spend up to twice its average daily budget to handle changes in traffic. Across a month, though, you will not be charged more than 30.4 times your average daily budget. So think in monthly terms: decide what you are comfortable spending in a month in INR, then divide it by roughly 30 to set the daily figure.
Start small, track results for a few weeks, then increase budget only on campaigns that bring real enquiries.
Why is conversion tracking essential?
Conversion tracking tells you which keywords and ads lead to enquiries, so you can spend on what works instead of guessing from clicks.
Google Ads measures actions people take on your website after clicking an ad, using the Google tag. You can set up conversions in a few ways:
- By URL: count a conversion when someone reaches a thank-you page. No code changes are needed.
- By code or Google Tag Manager: needed for button clicks, such as a WhatsApp or call button, or for tracking values.
- Import from Google Analytics: bring in events you have marked as key events in GA4.
Track phone calls as well if many customers ring you. Then test every conversion yourself before launch so you know the data is real.
How do you stop wasted spend with the search terms report?
Review the search terms report every week and add irrelevant searches as negative keywords so your ads stop showing for them.
The search terms report shows the actual searches that triggered your ads, which can differ from the keywords you chose. Google notes that some low-volume terms are hidden for privacy, so you will not see every query.
When you see a search you do not want, such as “free”, “jobs” or a service you do not offer, add it as a negative keyword. Keep in mind that Google says negative keywords do not match close variants, so you may need to add plural or alternative spellings separately. Negatives can be broad, phrase or exact match.
A simple weekly routine:
- Open the search terms report for the last 7 days.
- Add irrelevant terms as negatives.
- Add strong, relevant terms as new keywords.
- Pause keywords that spend without bringing enquiries.
Google Ads for small business FAQs
How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?
There is no fixed amount. Start with a monthly budget in INR that you are comfortable spending even if the first weeks are a learning period, then divide it by about 30 for the daily budget. Keep the targeting tight so that budget goes on relevant searches, and increase it only when you can see conversions coming from specific campaigns.
Can I run Google Ads myself?
Yes. Many owners run a simple Search campaign themselves using Google’s help documentation. The key tasks are setting location to Presence, choosing specific keywords, tracking conversions and checking the search terms report weekly. If you lack time for that weekly review, consider getting help, because an unattended account can keep spending on irrelevant searches.
What is the best campaign type for a local business?
For most local service businesses, a Search campaign is the easiest place to start, because your ads appear when people actively search for your service in your area. Once you have conversion tracking working and understand what brings enquiries, you can test other campaign types that Google recommends for your goal.
Why are my Google Ads getting clicks but no leads?
Common causes are broad keywords, location set to “Presence or interest”, ads sending people to the home page and missing conversion tracking. Check the search terms report for irrelevant queries, set location to Presence, link each ad group to a matching service page and make sure your form and call buttons are tracked correctly.
What are negative keywords in Google Ads?
Negative keywords stop your ads from showing for searches you do not want, such as job searches or services you do not offer. You can add them at campaign or ad group level as broad, phrase or exact match. Unlike normal keywords, negatives do not match close variants, so add plurals and common misspellings too.
How long does it take to see results from Google Ads?
Ads can start showing soon after they are approved, so you may see clicks quickly. Judging whether a campaign brings profitable enquiries takes longer, because you need enough conversions to compare keywords and ads. Review weekly, make small changes and give each change time before you judge it.
